Thankfully God speaks to us in many ways. So, here are a few things God has used to speak to me recently and perhaps you can use them for prayer inspiration for your discernment!
Movie: Moana
In this 2016 animated film from Disney, young Moana hears a call from the ocean. After trying to suppress her call, she cannot resist and goes on a heroic journey to help save her people. She has doubts about if the call is real or if something is wrong with her for feeling that way, "But the voice inside sings a different song. What is wrong with me?" Our discernment journey can parallel Moana's. Who supports our call? How have tried to deny our call? Who is our unlikely companion? What happens when we take a step out in faith?
Song: Oceans by Hillsong
This is likely a popular choice for many people, but it's only because we can all resonate with the feeling of stepping out into the crashing waves. We can simultaneously trust God and yet be nervous. And for the times when our nerves take over, the song provides a powerful lyric, "Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders."
