Thursday in the Fourth Week of Advent - Today's Readings
In today's Gospel, Zechariah is overjoyed at the birth of his son and gifted with the return of his voice. Immediately he proclaims God's goodness and God's promise for his child. Zechariah says to John:
You, my child, shall be called the prophet of the Most High,
for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way,
to give his people knowledge of salvation
by the forgiveness of their sins.
In your life, who prepares the way for God to enter? Who helps you understand scripture, the Church or your faith? Who helps you to grow in virtue by practicing faith and forgiveness? John was a prophet for many people, calling them to return to God. But sometimes a person can be a prophet for us as families, friends or even individuals. We may know these people personally or may only know them through their preaching and teaching.
As we enter into the final few hours of Advent, let us listen to these prophets. How are they calling us to tidy up ourselves to be ready for Christ's coming?
