What's your favorite movie? A movie that you can watch over and over again and still enjoy? Despite knowing the ending, there's always a new lesson, a new line, or a new scene that you see differently. Perhaps its a comedy and no matter how you are feeling, this movie gives you a laugh. Or even a drama that is able to surprise you every time.
If we allow it, scripture can be like our favorite movie that we watch over and over again. Each time we read it, we experience something new. Or perhaps we bring new experiences to our reading. Either way, this is why we read the same passages throughout our lifetimes. There's something important, universal and timeless about the Gospel message that cannot be grasped by only reading it once.
As we enter this Lenten season, let us ask God what He is inviting us to experience. Yes, we have likely read these passages before. But what is new about them this time? What is new about us as we hear them?
