Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception - Today's Readings
Today's feast day is about preparation. More than a decade prior to Jesus' birth, Mary was being formed and prepared to become a living tabernacle for Jesus. Similar to any valuable gift that we wrap beautifully and keep safe, Mary's womb was the gift wrap and safe haven for the gift of Jesus. God was preparing her to carry Him.
This year I am sitting with this idea of preparing our bodies for Christ. Normally, I focus on nourishment for my soul and I forget that my body is a gift of God and should be cared for as such. I'm not called to physically carry the Savior, but I am called to carry my children, support my husband, and care for our household. My body is a temple of the Holy Spirit. My body is meant to be a handmaid of the Lord, able to do the ministry God calls me to.
So, as we dive deeper into Advent, let us pay attention to our bodies. How are we preparing them to be vessels of the Holy Spirit?
