Tuesday of Holy Week - Reflection

by Sr. Amy Junk (written in 2016)

“On you I depend from birth …you are my strength” Psalm 71:6

Love, strength, weakness, vulnerability, betrayal, suffering, hope, following the call, stumbling on our way; none of these happen in isolation, none of them happen just one solitary time or for just one moment. They are intertwined. They are the “stuff” of life. They were there in the beginning. They will continue until all are with God in the resurrection. We all experience strengths and weaknesses from the moment we are born until the time that we enter eternal life. Jesus experienced them to their fullness. Through his example we can grow to understand that we are not meant to live this life alone. We need one another. We are meant, like Jesus, to offer ourselves generously so that “… salvation may reach to the ends of the earth.” Isaiah 49:6.

Questions for Reflection:

  • Who are the people in your life with whom you share your strength and weaknesses

  • Who needs to experience God’s presence through you?

Prayer: Compassionate God, today we unite ourselves in a special way with one another and with Jesus as we remember his suffering and death. Help us to let you be our strength in all circumstances so that not one drop of Jesus’s blood will be shed in vain. Amen.
